The owner of this KTM came up from Southampton with his son (who owned a carb’d 950) and confessed he didn’t know what to do with his fuel-injected engine – thought he’d made a big mistake buying it.

Anyway, we rode his bike before we started the ECU remap just to make sure it was as bad as he felt it was. And to be fair – which we said – it wasn’t too messy. We have ridden some KTM horror shows and this one wasn’t near…

But in his words “I’m here, so do something to it…” we got on with it. We went through the usual suspects – Lambda, secondary air, ignition and fuelling – and took out the restrictions obvious in the secondary butterflies, making real improvements to mid and top-end power plus a sweet bottom-end feel.

We sent him out on the test ride, “It’s a different motorcycle!” Job as they say, done.

He rode a long way to get his ECU remapped, but the owner of this SMT went home a happy man.
