The owner of this RC8R also came to us with his SMT for an ECU remap – he liked the result so bought his sporty option in for the treatment. His local KTM dealer had offered to remap it to the full Akrapovic Evo 4 race exhaust system; apparently a generic map would ‘fix’ everything…
Then they weren’t able to do that because he hadn’t had the full track day kit and made some excuses that it wouldn’t run right without it. So anyway, we sucked the map out (a big job on the RC8R) but we remapped it as usual and rode it after the work. Now this is a bike we want ourselves! Why you say?
Because the RC8R is a sports bike that fits old men, plus they behave, stop, steer and turn beautifully. And we’d liken the motor to Honda’s old SP1/SP2 V-twin – it never kicks you really hard up the arse, just keeps coming. Lovely job.
