Lovely bloke who owns this Yamaha – he bought it and lovingly restored it but ended up with an immaculate-looking bike riddled with a load of issues…
It had a Dynojet kit in the carbs, so Gill sourced new emulsion tubes and needles to replace the worn out items (they were a mess) and we managed with difficulty to removed the 4 glued-in air corrector bungs (remember them?), clean the carbs and put it all back together re-jetted for the standard can.
We then balanced the throttle bodies and carbs and the engine ran sweetly, with good throttle response and a consistent idle – before it was like it was running in treacle. During the test ride(s) we also discovered the head bearings were shot, the fork seals had gone and the suspension adjustment was stuck.
So while it looked great nothing worked, and to get the bike to handle half-decently it needed a thorough sort-out. Which is what it got!
