The owner of this Trumpet brought it to us because he felt his bike wasn’t making anything like the power it should for such a big capacity. Triumph do run these bikes as lean as they dare and the emissions equipment doesn’t help either – so the first job for us was to switch off via the ECU anything interfering with the motor.
We took the restriction out of 2nd and 3rd gear but left it in 1st; it’s a big engine and could get a bit too lively off the line… Some further fiddling with ignition in 3rd and 4th followed then we mapped the fuelling to the pipes (big changes here) and that was it – a fully uncorked stump-puller at last! These twins respond well to an ECU remap and we like doing ’em.
