This tidy 996 – from Thetford way – had been stood for a couple of years. We serviced it some time back but hadn’t seen it in a while, and the owner was concerned about the belts after such a long time. You’d get away with a 3 year change interval if you used the bike regularly, at least weekly. But leave it any length of time and they go hard ‘n’ horrible so better safe than sorry.

While the bike was on the bench we went through everything; the fuel pump came out of the tank (very important because of the poor fuel we get today) and when it left us it was good to go. A lovely machine.

If your Ducati's been stood for a while bewared the belts – don't trust 'em, change 'em...
