This is the last ZZR incarnation with the ‘smaller’ engine. It responds well to an ECU remap because we can adjust the secondary butterflies which makes a big difference to throttle control and feel; with this particular bike we also tidied up a few areas within the ignition map, where it retards for emission control. Sorting out the fuelling from there was straightforward – with the pipes it had fitted it made 177bhp after the work.
Not bad you might say, and this is a strong engine, but the new one… blimey. That’s a different kettle of fish altogether!
