We’ve only recently got the ability with our system to ECU remap the SV1000, and we had one pass through our workshop soon after. To be fair, it’s a straightforward bike to sort out – we can work on each cylinder individually (which is massively important on a V-twin) and are also able to look into the secondary butterfly map, which in this case was a horrible mess!
It was very ‘stepped’, with pronounced dips in the ignition map as well around the 4,000rpm emissions testing area – so we sorted that all out straight away, making the butterflies open and close in a progressive way and filling in the holes in the ignition.
The owner had removed the airbox snorkel and fitted a BMC filter, which had created a hole in the power delivery around 6/7,000rpm, which we were able to fix by adding more fuel at that point.
On the test ride after the remap the smoothness in the bottom end was noticeable – this is a lovely engine once it’s sorted!
