Bit of a story with this Tuono. Normally, before you can do anything to it Power Commander-wise an Aprilia dealer hast to set the ECU to ‘Race Zone 2’. That switches off the lambda sensor so the PC can do its job. The owner had got a set of custom exhaust pipes and the bike was running very rich. So we remapped it, got the fuelling sorted and were generally happy. But…

…when the customer went to ride off he noticed that the engine management warning light was lit up on the dash. So we did then wonder if the ECU had been switched to Race Zone 2, and suggested he get to his dealer and check – otherwise it’ll permanently default. Which is what he did, and they said that it was set where it needed to be. But the dash was still lit up.

So now he’s got the situation where when he disconnects the lambda and uses our PC map only the bike runs really well, when he reconnects the lambda he gets the warning light. There is a way around it – we can fit an 02 Optimiser which means he gets to run his PC without the problem. He’s happy enough with the way his bike’s running now; it’s just one of those small wrinkles that surface from time to time.

To lambda or not to lambda? Race Zone 2 is the answer – it needs switching on in the ECU...
