2008 Yamaha R1 club racer

By 16th March 2011On the Dyno, Race Bikes, Yamaha

The happy chap is club racer Ben Kinrade; he’d been campaigning a 675 Daytona and was getting fed up of the maintenance expense and constant engine upkeep – this is his, and his family’s hobby after all. Mark pointed him in the direction of a litrebike Superstocker, either a GSX-R1000 or R1 to save some costs. He sold his Triumph and all the bits and, for just over £4,000 got this very tidy 2008 R1 and bought it down from Scotland for a light fettle and a bit of prep. The Power Commander was remapped on the Dyno; it wasn’t too far adrift as was but a couple of little tricks in the back end of the map pay big dividends in terms of rideability. It went back in Ben’s van with a solid 174bhp at the back wheel and a season’s racing ahead of them both. Good luck mate!
