This particular variant of KTM’s LC8 engine is in a much higher state of tune than the SMT or Adventure, and it’s trickier to dial out the snatchiness and get spot-on because of the sheer nature of a much ‘cammier’ motor. We ride every KTM that comes through the door to see how bad (or OK) it is prior to remapping the ECU: this one wasn’t the worst, but needed some work to dial out the snatchy power delivery.

We went through everything; lambda sensor, secondary butterfly valves, ignition and fuelling maps. There’s only so much you can do via the ECU as this is an engine in a pretty wild state of tune. We’d calmed it down but the cam and flywheel set-up is something that we can’t get around. Some customers actually like the spikey nature of this motor and want more of it! that’s actually easier…
