Until we could remap an ECU a Power Commander was the only option to sort out the fuelling after fitment of a can. Now, a lot of customers we see complain to us that they feel something’s not quite right after a PC fitment – maybe the engine’s not so crisp and maybe a bit lacking, woolly even.

The difference for us of course is that via the ECU we can switch off everything that’s interfering with the engine; and then map the thing directly. And 9 out of 10 customers say it simply feels a whole lot sharper – which is the case with this R1.

With the PC V we’re finding so many little niggles – and we’re not blaming Power Commander like everybody has in the past – but there is a genuine reason to think there’s a problem in the firmware. ZX-10R’s are a nightmare to set up, as are Fireblades. GSX-Rs are OK if you can get a solid throttle position pickup. We reckon this is what cause the woolly feeling that we hear so much about – and once the PC is removed you end up with a different bike…
