This Yamaha R1 was booked in by its owner stating that it was a 2005 reg bike and it needed to be re-mapped because an aftermarket exhaust had been fitted.
We thought great, it can be reflashed via the ECU but on further inspection it was actually a 2002 model that had obviously been late registered.
This changed the whole ball game and we had to order a Power Commander 5 to get the fuelling right.
Knowing the correct year of manufacture is paramount especially when ordering spare parts, if in doubt the bike’s VIN number is the only true record of the model year code.
