Oh dear. The owner of this KTM 690 Duke had previously parked a carb’d version in his garage, and wasn’t overly pleased with the feel of the new bike. He rides it in London, to and from work (he’d put high bars on it to stop clouting SUV car door mirrors…) but wanted the throttle feel sorting out through an ECU remap.

We switched off everything we could from an emissions perspective, but being a big single there’s only so much to be done to smooth out the delivery. We struck a compromise between the fuelling and ignition maps achieving a reasonable balance, and were pleased with result on the test ride.

In all honesty the actual design, capacity and architecture of this engine restricts what’s possible to adapt. But it certainly wasn’t the twitchy, unpredictable beast it was when it left us…
