2007 Yamaha FJR1300 valve clearance check and service

By 6th March 2013Servicing, Yamaha

The chap who owns this FJR had phoned around his local dealers for a quote on a service – the figures he was being told were frankly shocking. So he gave us a call, liked what he heard, and brought it in. We asked him to take his own fairing lowers off (saving a great deal of workshop time, and thus cost) and once the bike was here we went right through it, starting with the valve clearances.

Because it had done a good few miles (24,000) we also pulled the rear suspension linkages out. This is actually part of a high mileage service schedule anyway and it was a good job we had a look because the linkages were dead dry. He’d also got some pressure indicating valve caps fitted – these seem like a good idea but are very heavy, and can tear the valve caps out with extended motorway use. So we put some stock ones on…

We had a good look around his bike, and did whatever we thought necessary. And he still saved £300 over taking it to his local Yamaha dealer!

A Yamaha dealer wanted £700 to service this FJR. We did it (we like to think better) for a lot less...
