We’ve got a plan for the Rocket III over and above the standard ECU remap… we’ve a couple of owners that want to explore more of what their engine can do and so we’re going to upgrade the injectors.

When we remap ’em if we open the secondary butterflies right up we run out of injector performance – they simply can’t pump enough fuel. They’re restricted through gears and this really applies around 5-5,500rpm in fifth – they’ll only rev to 5.5 in fifth as opposed to 6.4 in fourth so by opening up the butterflies the fuelling goes massively lean.

There’s a lot of potential here so we’ve sourced some bigger injectors from the States. Ironically, another key to unlock the Rocket’s engine is to remove the airbox (not what we’d normally advise…) and run an open filter. The reason this works is the engine’s so restricted stock and the airflow has a convoluted passage to get to the inlet ports.

An ECU remap transforms this bike – they become a snarling beast that’s hard to hang onto. This one made 156lb-ft of torque! We’ll let you know how we get on with the fat injectors…
