Our personal opinion is that the best 1000cc GSX-R engine Suzuki has ever built is to be found in the K5, 6, 7 and 8…

This TT special is a lovely example, with 6,000 miles under its belt and therefore ripe for a fettle. It had the option Yoshi’ exhaust pipes onboard and all the owner’s done (another old customer of ours) is to de-cat it.

The ECU remap took care of all of the restrictions and we switched off anything not needed by the engine (emissions controls). We also set the secondary butterflies to open earlier in lower gears which takes out the lag that the map switch of the K7 injects. It’s now much more like a K5 in its monstrous power delivery and it feels so much sharper in your throttle hand.

And here’s the thing – a properly dialled in Power Commander will fuel an engine correctly but can feel woolly and lethargic. An ECU remap on the other hand delivers factory-fresh crispness and zap. Which is why we like ’em so much!
