The owner of this ZRX1100 initially contacted us via email after seeing what we were about from our website. He lives near Santa Pod and gets as much buzz as he needs from going fast down the quarter mile. He wants to do more, and go better, and extra performance always helps…

We started by going through all the options for his engine. Nothing with engine tuning to this extent is cheap though… He also had a mishmash of headers and exhaust can fitted – which were never going to be good for performance – and on the Dyno it made 117bhp at the rear wheel.

Our first move was to take off the cylinder head, skim and port it. We opened up the inlet manifold rubbers and fitted a set of ZZR1100 camshafts, which have more lift and duration. We also slotted the cam wheel and dialled the cams in to a timing specification that we’ve developed over the years. At this point we discussed carbs with him; CV carbs are too sluggish for drag racing – he needed flat slides.

So we got a bank, fitted ‘em and set everything up. It made 143bhp and would drag yer arms out of the sockets. All in all we were very pleased to get this sort of figure from the 1100 motor just with head and intake work (we never even touched the bottom end).

But we weren’t quite finished at that; the standard throttle was too lazy for burning through the gears, so we talked to him again and he agreed on fitment of an ACTIVE quick action throttle kit. We adapted the switchgear from a recent R1 to make it all work beautifully and it provided the finishing touch to a very tasty drag-ready machine. Have fun mate!
