Honda Blackbird alternator problem

By 24th August 2011Honda, Road Bikes, Workshop Tips

Regulator/rectifier problems are common on Honda FireBlades, but this Blackbird had burnt out its alternator. The ancillary bits and pieces that many owners run on bikes like this – heated grips etc – can place too high an electrical load and the earlier fuel injected Blackbirds seem prone to failure in this area.

The solution, obviously is a new alternator but if you’re running an early injected ‘Bird with loads of toys hooked up it may only be a matter of time before your alternator packs up…

This Blackbird came in with a charging fault; the alternator had worked too hard and given up the ghost.
