Ducati 748R track bike Ohlins fork service

By 3rd June 2011Ducati, Workshop Tips

Wearing number 21 on its frame plate this Ducati 748R is a regular in the BSD workshop, for service work and the usual belt maintenance. This time, however it was in to have its Ohlins forks seals replaced, and this is a common fault with bikes that are used mainly for track days (as this one is) and transported mostly in vans or trailers, strapped down hard.

Imagine 1-200 miles with your forks well compressed – in the end all that pressure will blow the seals, and Ohlins are unfortunately more susceptible than most. The cure? A simple Nylon fork lock and a couple of cable ties which, by lucky chance, our engineering shop makes for us…

Bike strapped down hard in back of van will equal blown fork seals, eventually...
