For some reason this year we’re seeing bikes that have been buried in garages for ages then sold – and the new owners are bringing these low mileage (but old) machines to us with problems… So with a service there’s a lot more to check, and you have to go round meticulously and not ignore anything.

Over and above the belts, oil and valve clearances we also thoroughly inspected this Monster’s wiring loom and – believe it or not – we often find infestations of mice in the airbox (not in this case…). The majority of issues are ‘intermittent electrical’ however – even if the bike looks immaculate its wiring and connectors can be rotten, so we have to treat each connector with a special spray.

Sometimes the bike won’t start, or the neutral light comes on of its own accord. And it’s all to do with the age of the loom.

Old, but immaculate and now fully serviced and good to go...
