The owner wanted us to sort out his 998s’s fuelling – which we were happy to do once we’d fixed his fuel pump (which wasn’t working properly) and fuel pressure. We’re seeing more and more older bikes with these sort of problems – it’s down to machines coming out of lengthy storage, and whether it goes to a new owner or not clogged fuel lines/filter/injectors and ageing electronics usually lead to running problems.

There’s no option but to set-to and go right through it. This engine wasn’t getting a delivery from the tank so it needed new pipes and connectors – it was a right mess. We got it all sorted, then finally mapped the Power Commander and blimey, 137bhp at the back wheel. That’s very healthy!
