This engine belongs in a race Ducati owned by a local team. We’ve been looking after and tuning their motors for years (as we do many) and this time of year our engine shop is flat out with rebuilds ready for the coming season.

The team had some solid results last year – finishing third in their championship up against ZX-10Rs and the like – with a rider who’s close to 65 years old! So they’re on it, and so is he…

Mind you, this motor’s done some work – as it came to pieces it was obvious it was pretty much destroyed. Fortunately it hadn’t broken down during the year; they’d had no issues with it and it had covered an entire season and a bit making a consistent 180bhp at the rear wheel. It needed a new slipper clutch, there was a shim broken in the gearbox (it had just started to jump out of gear), the main bearings were gone as were the Pankl rods that had come to the end of their proscribed life. And the pistons were done for.

We also rebalanced the crank because this is an area with these Ducatis that is critical with such a lumpy, powerful output. Now, it’s ready for the green light once more – have a good one, gents!
