Now we cringe a little when we see a bike fitted with an Austin Racing exhaust system… In the past we’ve found them to be more about style than substance.

They run a large diameter and are very open, which makes for a hollow rumble of an exhaust note. But, to be fair, they do seem to deliver the beans. They give us a big number, so we’ve learnt to not always judge a book by its cover!

This BMW S1000RR made 195bhp after we’d built it new fuelling and ignition maps, and switched off anything not needed to make the engine perform. Now that sort of power is not to be sneezed at!
