This wasn’t a lot of fun to start with… The owner of this BMW S1000R is a regular customer and asked us if we could do anything with it. Now there’s nothing wrong with Power Commanders but the truth is that these days they don’t really cover all the bases – unlike an ECU remap.

Unfortunately RexXer (who supply one of the programs we use) misread Gill’s emails and it turns out the S1000R/S1000RR ECUs are different part numbers. As a short-term workaround (to get the bike running safely with the Akrapovic) we sent them the ECU to work on directly, with information we’d found from running it on the Dyno.

And the bike now feels very progressive and not ‘nasty’ like they can. Essentially it feels like you’re in control of the throttle, not it. But we need to finalise the remap once the driver becomes available from RexXer, which will mean we can download and upload the map(s) to the ECU.

That will take a little more development time from RexXer, but we’ll let you know when it’s back and sorted!

The difference an R makes – ECU remap driver still in development!
