2014 Kawasaki ZZR1400 ECU remap – like an electric motor with 202bhp at the rear wheel. EEK!

These bikes never cease to amaze us. The Kawasaki ZZR14 is a true monster – especially once it’s been uncorked through its ECU. Awesome.

But before we work on the ECU we have to close off the secondary air and disconnect the lambda sensor, then switch off all the interference in the ECU. Once we’ve done that we can play with the fuelling to suit the engine: what pipe/filter it’s got, and how loose it is.

Now owners need to note this detail; the standard filter service change time is far too long. At 4,000 miles, mid-summer, it’ll be clogged. So before any tuning the filter will need checking, as it makes a massive difference.

We can ECU remap for a standard or aftermarket exhaust, because the emission control at the bottom end of the power curve can be sorted either way. After a remap this engine is so smooth, so linear it just feels almost magnetic in its delivery. From zero rpm!

Unceasingly amazing after an ECU remap. The ZZR14 is, truly, a monster...
