2012 BMW R1200GS Adventure 8,000 mile service plus new tyres

Posted June 15th, 2015 in BMW, Servicing.

The owner of this BMW Adventure – the very last of the air-cooled models – did not buy it from his local BMW dealer but had it delivered, new,  from Sunderland. So he had no real reason to go BMW to get it serviced and brought it to us for the BSD stamp in its book – and not to get fleeced by main dealer workshop rates! He’s off around Europe for the summer and wanted it sorted before he left.

We dropped the oil, fitted a genuine BMW oil filter and slid the correct amount of Silkolene into its crankcases. We then went over the bike and checked everything, before changing the tyres. At just over 8,000 miles the front Metzeler Tourance was still in good shape, but the rear was nearly done (that’s not a bad mileage for such a heavy bike). The owner was reasonably happy with the Metzelers’ performance but wanted to try some Michelin Pilot Road 4 Trails, so we levered them onto its rims.

The last thing to do was plug into the ECU and reset the ‘SERVICE’ warning on the dash. Ready for another 8,000 miles!

Serviced, with new tyres and ready to go – this R1200 GSA is on its way to France...
